Therapy

We hear things like this from the people we work with:

“I’m exhausted.

I just don’t have it in me to deal with so many things in my life, and they are constantly building up.”

“I wake up overwhelmed about all the things I need to accomplish.

I barely have time for coffee before I’m planning or obsessing about what I should be doing or what could go wrong.”

“I’m constantly picking at myself and think people are judging me.

It’s very hard for me to be satisfied with anything that I do.”

“I find myself getting irritated and angry at the people I love.

I sometimes yell at them and then feel guilty.”

Sound familiar?

We help you address the difficult and overwhelming things in your life and live fully in the present moment.

OUR APPROACH

Our approach combines talk therapy with experiential therapies, like EMDR and Somatic Experiencing, to help restore your body and mind’s innate capacity to heal.

By focusing on a connection between mind and body, experiential therapies allow us to process overwhelming experience and difficulties little by little, in ways that feel safe and manageable.

Over time, we help build your capacity to settle and regulate your nervous system, so you can feel grounded, even in the midst of stressful or difficult experiences.

EMDR

Attachment Focused EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a highly researched trauma resolution therapy that uses bilateral stimulation to help people heal from PTSD and other distressing life experiences such as anxiety, depression, negative thoughts, and overwhelming emotions.  EMDR does this by unlocking the body and mind’s inherent capacity to heal. One of the advantages of EMDR is that often you will experience relief sooner than with traditional psychotherapy.

Attachment Focused EMDR prioritizes your safety and goals throughout the treatment, creatively modifying the process when necessary in order to stay attuned to your needs.

Somatic Experiencing

It’s often said that trauma is held in the body. Often people can make significant strides in talk therapy but not have dealt with the tension and stress that are experienced in the body as a result of trauma.  Somatic Experiencing (SE) is grounded in the idea that full psychological healing needs to meaningfully integrate the body.

In psychotherapy, we’re often paying attention to our thoughts, feelings, and the meaning we make of them.  In SE we also get curious about sensations and what the body is trying to tell us as we listen to these sensations. SE integrates ways of softening and processing this tension to completion so you can feel more relaxed, integrated, and truly yourself.
